Two OIC International volunteers - one who has improved production technology and reduced disease incidence in mushroom farming in Ghana and Nigeria, and another who brought her agricultural marketing skills to Mali to help producer groups in that West African country package and bring their shea butter products to domestic, regional and international markets - have been honored by VEGA - Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance.
The two, Dr. Omoanghe S. Isikhuemhen and Sonja Perakis, provided nearly 1,000 hours of volunteer service as part of OIC International's Farmer-to-Farmer project, a USAID-supported program that enables U.S. agricultural specialists to share their skills, experience and past successes with African farmers, helping raise productivity and promote entrepreneurship there.
