Teaching entrepreneurship...

OUR APPROACH
OICI’s microfinance projects provide financial services coupled with business literacy to groups of aspiring entrepreneurs, many of which are women. Group lending also extends to farming cooperatives composed of low-income men and women. Our microcredit projects are either in-kind (such as seeds, farming tools, fertilizer, animal traction, machinery) or cash granted via a village banking model, and aim to enhance incomes for those who are unemployed or who are engaged in subsistence agriculture.

Our microfinance program provides resource poor, largely rural microentrepreneurs with the working capital they need to start, expand and diversify their existing businesses. Most of our services focus on livelihood skills and assisting with small enterprises such as:
  • Tie-and-dye and batik production
  • Dressmaking
  • Furniture making
  • Ceramics
  • Poultry and hog raising
  • Food processing
OICI PROGRAMSCrosscutting ProgramsNearly all of our Food Security, Skills Development and Community Development programs include microenterprise components as they are critical to program success.
