OUR APPROACH
 OICI believes that large, private sector activity in local communities does not have to be negative, as long as the communities themselves benefit.
Our projects provide holistic development assistance in each community, building community members’ inherent capabilities that enable them to prioritize needs, conceive action plans, and follow through in project implementation and evaluation activities. OICI works closely with private sector companies in order to assist them in:
- Identifying the pressing development needs in the communities in which they operate
- Collecting data to facilitate development assistance planning
- Developing projects that will positively impact affected populations
- Implementing and supervising development projects to ensure their maximum potential is achieved
OICI works with companies to ensure that they are following best practices and implementing projects that meet international standards. In the recent past, OICI has worked with oil companies such as Chevron-Texaco, Shell and ExxonMobil in Warri, Lagos, Kano and Calabar states in Nigeria on community development initiatives providing:
- Employment generation
- Business management training
- Microfinance services targeted toward women and youth
