Water & Sanitation OIC International's Clean Water and Sanitation program aims to make measurable and sustainable improvements in water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and the overall environment in the communities we serve.
OUR APPROACH
The components of OIC International’s Clean Water and Sanitation programs are to:
1. Increase access to potable water and sanitation facilities
2. Promote positive behavior towards proper water and sanitation facility utilization & hygiene practices (Behavior Change Communication)
3. Strengthen capacities of relevant national, county, district, and community stakeholders to perform their role in community water and sanitation services delivery management
4. Improve clean water and sanitation standards, guidelines, procedures, and approaches achieved through regular & productive coordination and collaboration with relevant government, NGOs, and donor stakeholders
5. Increase access to seed funds to support community generated activities that will complement infrastructural development6. Enhance strategic alliances and partnerships between public and private entities for development
OUR IMPACT
Our demonstrated strength in skills development in multi-sector environments is a proven strength in our water-sector programs. Training and education at the community, family and individual levels have been crucial to our success in our water projects. Selected impacts from our recent programs in Ghana and Guinea include:
1. Successfully introduced and implemented integrated water and sanitation and hygiene interventions
2. Built and installed over 125 wells and 187 boreholes
3. Formed over 412 locally-owned Water and Sanitation committees and provided training in hygiene education, water handling, revenue generation and maintenance of wells and boreholes
4. Provided over 35,000 household members with access to clean water in Guinea
