Zimbabwe Opportunities Industrialization Centers International (ZOIC)


DATE ESTABLISHED 1998

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEWZOIC seeks to promote employment opportunities, offer training services, and create positive environments for entrepreneurial and small enterprise development in Zimbabwe. ZOIC, which operates under the Memorandum of Understanding created between the Ministry of National Affairs, Employment Creation & Cooperatives and Opportunities Industrialization Centers International, is a program organised to provide assistance that increases the knowledge and improves the skills of Zimbabwean youth, retrenched civil servants, businessmen and women, entrepreneurs and others who are interested in generating income and bettering the quality of their lives.

PROGRAMS
Entrepreneurship and Business Development
ZOIC is assisting micro-business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, unemployed youth, farmer and poor women in rural areas to increase their earnings, access capital and improve their wealth creation ability. The EBD program provides capacity-building support services in business development and microfinance services to ZOIC programs and other local providers serving the small- and micro-enterprise sector.

Business Development Services (BDS) and Technology Support
ZOIC is partnering with the Development Technology Centre--a University of Zimbabwe-based support program for rural businesses--in order to encourage and facilitate the growth of microenterprises among unemployed youth, farmers, poor women and unemployed adults in general. Specific products offered to beneficiaries include training on how to start a business, how to conduct feasibility studies, product development, building access to credit, and providing training in marketing and business expansion.

Microenterprise Services
With significant support from the Agricultural Bank of Zimbabwe and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, ZOIC has introduced a microfinance program which provides resource-poor, largely rural microentrepreneurs with the working capital they need to start, expand and diversify their existing and emerging local businesses.  ZOIC's services assist beneficiaries become skilled entrepreneurs by facilitating the development and conduct of their businesses.

Sustainability Services
With support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, ZOIC offers training and support in organizational and financial sustainability to both the business and NGO community. ZOIC's goals for this program are to help organizations increase their income, improve cost savings, strengthen management structures, and improve organizational capacity and sustainability.
