This farmer is one of the beneficiaries of technical assistance provided by Rev. Joe Green in Tamale, N.Ghana.

FarmServe Africa is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the John Ogonowski Farmer-to-Farmer Program for 2004-2008. The project’s goal is to reduce hunger in Africa, raise productivity and promote entrepreneurship by building sustainable partnerships.

The program provides an opportunity for U.S. Agriculturists to use their skills and experience, as volunteers, to strengthen agricultural development in Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, and Senegal. Volunteers are hosted by families for three to four weeks, an arrangement which facilitates the sharing of cultural experiences.

Farming groups in country work together with volunteers in response to local needs. Technical capacity is improved particularly in production, processing and marketing. All volunteer assignments are designed with measurable objectives that impact the lives of the African people .

OICI is partnering with 4 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (Alcorn State University, North Carolina A&T;, Southern University and University of Arkansas Pine Bluff), as well as Partners of the Americas, Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources & Related Sciences (MANRRS) and Agribusiness in Sustainable Natural African Plant Products (A-SNAPP).
